Directed by Barry Levinson, "The Humbling" is based on the 2009 novel of the same name by Philip Roth; Buck Henry penned the screenplay.

In the film, Pacino's character struggles to land his next gig, and he turns heads by dating his friend's much younger daughter (Gerwig), who is referred to as a "flirtatious lesbian."
