Gerard Canonico isn’t just tearing up the stage as Rich in Joe Iconis’ musical Be More Chill on Broadway, he’s also about to shine on the big screen. The new movie musical Stuck will debut in select theatres April 19. In the clip above, Playbill gets an exclusive sneak peek at Canonico’s solo “Angles of Your Face.”
Based on the stage musical by Riley Thomas, the film stars Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul), Amy Madigan (A Streetcar Named Desire), musical sensation Ashanti, Omar Chaparro (Show Dogs, Compadres), Arden Cho (Teen Wolf) and Gerard Canonico (Be More Chill) as New York Subway commuters with stories to sing.
Directed and adapted by Michael Berry, Stuck features original music by Thomas, Tim Young, and Ben Maughan, and choreography Shannon Lewis. Each song is written in the style of each character with elements of pop, rap, Motown, and classical.
Canonico made his Broadway debut in the original production of Les Misérables as a replacement for Gavroche. He returned to the Main Stem in 2006 as part of the original company of Spring Awakening. Since then, he has appeared in American Idiot and Groundhog Day.
