PASADENA, CA -- A concert version of Bob Merrill and Michael Stewart's Carnival , based on the film "Lili," will be presented Oct. 19 at 7:30 PM for one night only at the Pasadena Playhouse. The show is directed by Susan Watson, who played Lili in the first national tour of Carnival and took the role on Broadway after Anna Maria Alberghetti left. The Musical Theatre Guild's staging will feature musical direction by Jeff Rizzo.

Recalling her years in the show, Watson said in a statement, "The most difficult time I had...was getting the part of Lili, because Gower [Champion] knew me as a bouncy teenager in Bye Bye Birdie and did not feel that I was actress enough to play the part of a French waif. But after auditioning in a dark wig and jumper with old-fashioned dark stockings and shoes, plus singing every kind of number imaginable, he relented!"

The second show in MTG's current season, Carnival will be followed in future months by Bells Are Ringing, I Remember Mama and Passion.

Call (818) 848-6844. The Pasadena Playhouse is at 39 S. Molino. Tickets are $25 for adults; $20 for seniors/children 12 and under.
