International News 'We Are What We Are': Regent's Park's La Cage aux Folles Opens August 8

Tim Sheader directs the Tony-winning Harvey Fierstein-Jerry Herman musical.

The Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production of the Tony-winning musical La Cage aux Folles officially opens at the outdoor London venue August 8 following previews that began July 29. Performances continue through September 16.

Directed by outgoing Artistic Director Tim Sheader, the cast is led by Carl Mullaney (Chicago, Les Misérables) as Albin and Billy Carter (A Moon for the Misbegotten) as Georges with Ben Culleton as Jean-Michel, Julie Jupp as Marie Dindon, Shakeel Kimotho as Jacob, Debbie Kurup as Jacqueline, John Owen-Jones as Edward Dindon, and Sophie Pourret as Anne.

Completing the company are Jak Allen-Anderson as Hanna, Craig Armstrong as Cagelle, Tom Bales as Cagelle, Taylor Bradshaw as Cagelle, Daniele Coombe as Mme. Renaud, Jordan Lee Davies as Chantal, Nicole Deon as Ensemble, Lewis Easter as Cagelle/Swing/Dance Captain, Harvey Ebbage as Cagelle, Emma Johnson as Ensemble/Swing, George Lynham as Cagelle, JP McCue as Cagelle, Rishard-Kyro Nelson as Cagelle/Swing, Alexandra Waite-Roberts as Ensemble, and Hemi Yeroham as Francis.

Based on the play by Jean Poiret, La Cage has a book by Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics by Jerry Herman. The musical opened on Broadway in August 1983, subsequently winning six Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The creative team also includes associate director Thyrza Abrahams, casting director Amy Ball, associate casting director Arthur Carrington, makeup designer Guy Common, costume designer Ryan Dawson Laight, associate sound designer James Hassett, lighting designer Howard Hudson, sound designer Nick Lidster, season associate/intimacy director Ingrid Mackinnon, choreographer Stephen Mear, associate choreographer Ebony Molina, voice and text director Janis Price, set designer Colin Richmond, assistant musical director Tom Slade, musical director Ben van Tienen, and musical supervisor Jennifer Whyte.
