LOS ANGELES -- Many of the top female stand-up comics on the West Coast will appear each Sunday afternoon through the month of May to support the fund-raising efforts of Theatre of Hope for Abused Women's Safe Harbor program.

Safe Harbor offers a variety of services to aid women and children who are recovering from domestic violence.

M.C.ing the series and performing herself is Heidi Joyce. The series has become popular with women comics, many of whom believe that most comedy clubs are sexist and won't give females a fair share of available stage time.

Among the participating comics are Stephanie Miller, Vathy Ladman, Margaret Cho, Henriette Mantel and Rhonda Shear.

Heidi Joyce's Stand Up Against Domestic Violence kicks off May 1 at 1 PM and runs through May 31. Tickets are $10. At the Bitter Truth Theatre, 11050 Magnolia Blvd. in N. Hollywood. Call (818) 766-9702. -- By Willard Manus
