According to a statement from the London publicists, "Cameron Mackintosh and the US producers have decided not to re-cast Hair when the Broadway company finish their London engagement. The final performance will be 4 September 2010."

When Diane Paulus' production crossed the Atlantic, its original Broadway company came with it, led by Gavin Greel and Will Swenson as Claude and Berger, respectively, who had both been Tony nominated for their performances on Broadway.

Swenson was already set to depart the production early, and as previously reported on this site, is being replaced by Steel Burkhardt, also an original company member of the Broadway production of Hair who is currently appearing in the ensemble of the West End production. He will take over May 31.

Diane Paulus' production, which was first seen at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park in the summers of 2007 and 2008 before transferring to Broadway's Al Hirschfeld Theare in March 2009 (where it is still running), won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. In addition director Paulus and choreographer Karole Armitage were respectively nominated for Tonys for Best Direction of a Musical and Best Choreography. Michael McDonald, Kevin Adams and Acme Sound Partners were also nominated, respectively, for Best Costume Design of a Musical, Best Lighting Design of a Musical and Best Sound Design of a Musical.

Hair began performances at the Gielgud Theatre April 1, prior to an official opening April 14. It was originally booking through Jan. 8, 2011.
