Evens, who can currently be seen Off-Broadway in Jasper in Deadland, will play the role of chimney sweep Bert, the part created on screen by Dick Van Dyke and subsequently on Broadway by Gavin Lee.
The family-friendly musical will play the New York venue May 8-July 27. Additional casting will be announced shortly.
About his upcoming role, Evens told Playbill.com, "It's been a role I've loved since seeing Dick Van Dyke in the movie."
Leo Ash Evens, who has recently taken part in readings of Diner and The Honeymooners, was seen Off-Broadway in Finks, Around the World, Wanda's World and Yank and in the Ravinia Festival production of Gypsy (starring Patti LuPone) as Tulsa. He has toured in productions of 42nd Street, On the Record and West Side Story, and his NYMF credits include Harmony, I Prefer to Dream, But I'm a Cheerleader, Going Down Swingin and The Taxi Cabaret. Among Evens' regional credits are Oklahoma!, Cabaret, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Footloose. He also played Jamie in Matthew Lopez’s world-premiere play Somewhere.
