Actively involved at the Westport Country Playhouse, where his wife, Oscar-winning actress Joanne Woodward serves as artistic director, Mr. Newman made his final stage appearance in the Westport revival of Thornton Wilder's Our Town. The acclaimed actor portrayed the Stage Manager in the James Naughton-helmed production that subsequently transferred to Broadway in 2002. The Westport Country Playhouse will present screenings of Our Town, which was filmed by the Showtime cable network during its Broadway run. Screenings will take place at 2 PM and 7 PM on Nov. 22. One hour prior to each screening, Westport will welcome the public to celebrate Mr. Newman's life with refreshments.
Paul Newman, the ruggedly handsome Oscar-winning actor known for his roles in "Cool Hand Luke," "Hud," "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," and Broadway's Picnic, Sweet Bird of Youth and The Desperate Hours, lost his battle with cancer on Sept. 26 at the age of 83.
