During the June 12 interview, Gifford questioned whether the Grammy nominee would return to Broadway. Barrino said, "I'm coming back in October."

She did not reveal the name of the project; however, there has been speculation that she will star in the Broadway transfer of Cotton Club Parade.

The musical revue, which celebrates Duke Ellington's years at the famed Harlem nightclub in the 1920s and '30s, played two engagements at New York City Center Encores! in 2011 and 2012.

Representatives for the production could not confirm Barrino's attachment to the project.

Barrino, who won the third season of "American Idol," earned acclaim for her Broadway debut in the Tony Award-nominated musical The Color Purple in 2007. Following her Broadway run, the actress reprised her performance in the national tour. She has also been seen in her television biopic "Life Is Not a Fairy Tale: The Fantasia Barrino Story."
