The world premiere of Hamish Linklater’s The Whirligig officially opened May 21 at The Pershing Square Signature Center in New York City. The New Group production features a cast made up of Noah Bean, Norbert Leo Butz, Jon DeVries, Alex Hurt, Zosia Mamet, Jonny Orsini, Grace Van Patten, and Dolly Wells.
Performances began May 4 in The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre and have been extended to play through June 18. The New Group artistic director Scott Elliott directs the limited Off-Broadway engagement.
In Linklater’s The Whirligig, a couple care for their estranged, ailing daughter, played by Van Patten, in Berkshire County. “Broken-hearted and giddy with love and confusion, surprising visitors from Julie's complicated past practically trip over each other to reach the young woman they thought they'd lost years before but still feel so deeply connected to,” read production notes.
