When the inaugural BroadwayCon launched in January 2016, the idea was to create the ultimate fan convention to give theatrelovers an intimate look at all things stage. But now, not only is it a place for fans to share their passion, the annual event has become a space for industry members to exchange knowledge in navigating the business of show and how to best serve those fans.

To that end, BroadwayCon 2019 will feature Industry Day January 11, with panels about everything from reaching the female fanbase to leveraging your Instagram platform to engage fans. The day is geared towards substantive conversation and practical applications.

Focused on “creating space for conversation in the industry around issues that matter to our long-term success,” according to Situation Interactive’s Damian Bazadona, “the day will feature voices from both inside and outside the Broadway industry. From the inside, we can provide authentic insights into new opportunities as well as impending threats. From the outside, we can bring in fresh perspectives and outlooks from other industries trying to address similar business needs. It’s an exciting mix that we think will help move the entire Broadway industry forward."

Bazadona and the Situation team bring their expertise from their diverse array of marketing events to shape a day of programming addressing digital content, marketing to fans, reaching forgotten communities, branding, social media, and more.

“One of the common themes I hear from people during the Broadway-focused events we produce is that they often don’t have time to focus on anything other than what’s right in front of them,” says Bazadona. “That’s why the idea of creating an open space for conversation around topics that are important to our industry is so important. To have a larger group of diverse stakeholders present at an event like this is a powerful force we are always trying to tap into.

“Real conversations are the real goal,” Bazadona says, “and I think the day will be as productive as it is fun!”

Here’s a sampling of panels industry members can expect beginning at 2PM Friday, January 11, 2019:

The Broadway Blueprint
From music to digital content to licensing to OTT, the state of consumption is in the midst of an incredible transformation. Lee Seymour (Forbes) will facilitate a conversation around fan consumption with Kurt Deutsch (Sh-K-Boom Records), Bonnie Comley (BroadwayHD), and more.

The Forgotten Fans
Who gets left behind and why? Through an interactive presentation, attendees will experience first-hand what fans with various disabilities face when seeking to engage with brands.

Do It For The (Insta) Story
In a talk moderated by Sree Sreenivasan (former Chief Digital Officer of Columbia University and the Metropolitan Museum of Art), we'll hear from design expert David Korins (Hamilton) among others about how consumer behavior should (or shouldn’t) impact the design of the experience and the value of user-generated content for live entertainment brands.

Where Brands Meet Their Fans
As fans' behavior changes, so do their expectations of how we communicate with them. Damian Bazadona (Founder & President of Situation) will bring together leaders in digital marketing to discuss how these efforts are poised to be more effective than ever before. Panelists include Bashan Aquart (AKA), Tom Greenwald (SpotCo), Diana Salameh (Serino Coyne), and Steven Tartick (RPM).

The Female Quotient in Storytelling
With the majority of tickets purchased by women, why is there a persistent gap between creative contributions by women and what ultimately ends up on our stages? Ilene Rosen (RPM) will tap voices from across the industry including Emily Simoness (SPACE on Ryder Farm) and Julia Jordan (The Count) to address this question and discuss how we can move forward to stay connected to our audience.

Nurturing the Fan Relationship
When we think about people who truly understand their relationship with their fans, Mark Fisher (Mark Fisher Fitness) sits at the top of our list. In a one-on-one conversation, we'll hear Fisher's point of view on how to bravely nurture fan relationships.

Rewarding Broadway's Biggest Fans
With rising ticket prices and increasing demand, now is the time to ensure we show the proper respect and commitment to our most loyal fans. Katie Dalton (Audience Rewards) will bring together an array of loyalty experts across different industries—including Miles Johnson from SoulCycle—to discuss what loyalty looks like today and how we can prioritize it more effectively tomorrow.
