News Whoopi Goldberg Eyes Moms Mabley Film and Possible Off-Broadway Run Academy Award-winning actress and Tony-winning producer Whoopi Goldberg is planning to direct a documentary based on the life of African-American female comedian Moms Mabley.

Variety reports that Goldberg is hoping to complete the film by the end of the year, with a potential premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. Goldberg is also exploring performing her solo show about Mabley, Moms, which incorporates some of the late comedian's material. Goldberg's producer's plate is also full with the current Broadway musical Sister Act, which opens April 20; and the Chicago try-out of the rock musical White Noise, which began performances April 1.

An Academy Award-winning actress, Goldberg has appeared on Broadway in Whoopi, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (which she co-produced) and for a limited run in Xanadu. In addition to earning a Grammy and Golden Globe Award, Goldberg is a Tony-winning producer of 2002's Thoroughly Modern Millie. She is a co-host of ABC Television's "The View."
