According to the Post, Johnson and his business partners bought the rights to "Soul Train" last year for several million dollars. The Broadway-aimed musical will focus on the hit variety show, which ran from 1971-2006.

"Soul Train," hosted by Cornelius, featured performances by R&B, soul and hip hop artists and also included funk, jazz, disco and gospel music.

As previously reported, the soul-inspired musical Motown, based on the life of music producer and hit-maker Berry Gordy, will play Broadway in spring 2013.
