The Oscar-winning actor hopes to play 1950s TV journalist Edward R. Murrow in a stage adaptation of the 2005 film "Good Night, and Good Luck," according to the New York Post.

George Clooney directed the film, based on a screenplay he wrote with Grant Heslov; the latter may be involved in the stage version, although no creative team has been announced.

The film, which follows Murrow's attempt to bring down anti-Communist witchhunter Sen. Joseph McCarthy, featured David Strathairn as Murrow.

No official announcement about a stage production has been made.

Spacey won his Tony Award for his performance in Neil Simon's Lost in Yonkers.
