Andrew Lloyd Webber's office would neither confirm nor deny a report by New York Post columnist Liz Smith that the feature film version of Webber's musical, Sunset Boulevard, will star Tom Cruise and Barbara Streisand.

According to spokesperson Peter Brown, "At this point we're only concentrating on our current projects, the Evita film and Whistle Down The Wind.

Evita, starring Madonna as Eva Peron, is scheduled for a Dec. 25 release; Wind opens in Washington DC Dec. 12 prior to its Broadway opening April 17, 1997.

In her article, Smith makes the point that Evita's fate at the box office could be the determining factor for any plans involving a Sunset film.

The current Broadway cast of Sunset Boulevard comprises Elaine Paige as Norma (through April 22, 1997), George Hearn as Max, Alan Campbell and Alice Ripley. When Karen Mason leaves the company at the end of the year, Maureen Moore will become the new Norma standby.
