According to the New York Post, Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry (who is also tapped to direct the film adaptation of Wicked) is in talks to take over as director of Disney’s upcoming stage musical adaptation of the hit animated film Frozen.

On August 4, Disney announced that it had parted ways with the show’s original director, Alex Timbers, who previously staged Here Lies Love, Peter and the Starcatcher and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson.

Disney did not immediately respond to Playbill.com's request for comment.

Broadway’s Frozen Getting Creative Revamp With New Director and Choreographer

“Making the tough calls when creating a new Broadway musical is never easy, but this was especially painful,” Thomas Schumacher, president of Disney Theatrical Productions, said in an August 4 statement. “Alex Timbers is one of the most exciting and innovative theatre directors I know, and we’ve proudly worked with him from my support of the early development of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson through our work together on Peter and the Starcatcher. Though we have chosen to go in another direction with this role, we are committed to seeing Frozen’s tremendous theatrical potential brought to life onstage.”

The Post also reports that Frozen will take up residence at the St. James Theatre in 2018. The back wall of the theatre is being expanded in order to house the technically advanced production.
