News William Petersen and Rae Gray Cast in Steppenwolf's Slowgirl Steppenwolf ensemble member and former artistic director Randall Arney will return to the Chicago stage to direct Greg Pierce's familial drama Slowgirl.

Arney will reuinte with fellow ensemble member William Petersen, who will play Sterling. The two-person drama will also feature Rae Gray as Becky.

Previews begin July 18, prior to an official opening July 28. The production runs through Aug. 25.

Slowgirl explores the relationship between Becky (Gray) and her uncle Sterling (Petersen), whose isolated Costa Rican jungle home she flees to following an accident at a house party. The two become reacquainted over the week they spend together, as secrets about both of their pasts are revealed.

"My guess is that, like both characters in Slowgirl, we all of us harbor some degree of shame or guilt or regret about some action of our earlier life. How do we gain forgiveness? How do we forgive ourselves?" artistic director Martha Lavey said in a statement. "I think Slowgirl would suggest that our great release is in the compassionate witness of another. When we stop hiding out and, as Sterling does, as Becky does, we re-enter the world."

Pierce's play will travel to the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, where Arney currently serves as artistic director, as part of the 2013-14 season. The production team for Slowgirl includes Takeshi Kata (scenic design), Janice Pytel (costume design), Daniel Ionazzi (lighting design) and Richard Woodbury (sound design and original music). Additional credits include Erica Daniels (casting), Laura D. Glenn (stage manager) and Brianna Perry (production assistant).
