A start date for film production of Into the Woods had not previously been announced, but Deadline.com reports that production on Marshall's film for Warner Brothers, "The Thin Man," has been postponed.
It is likely that Into the Woods will now be Marshall's priority.
As previously reported, Into the Woods book writer James Lapine is currently at work on the screenplay, which will likely feature some new songs by Stephen Sondheim. Disney is behind the project.
Marshall is an Academy Award nominee for "Chicago." He also directed the film adaptation of "Nine." He is a Tony nominee for Kiss of the Spider Woman, Damn Yankees, She Loves Me, Cabaret and Little Me.

Into the Woods features a Tony-winning score by Sondheim and Tony-winning book by Lapine, who also staged both Broadway productions of the musical. Into the Woods premiered on Broadway in 1987 at the Martin Beck Theatre starring Bernadette Peters, Chip Zien, Joanna Gleason, Kim Crosby and Robert Westenberg. The original cast performance was preserved by PBS' American Playhouse in 1991. A 2002 Broadway revival played the Broadhurst Theatre.
