News WNYC's "Soundcheck" to Welcome Audra McDonald and Norm Lewis Porgy and Bess stars Audra McDonald and Norm Lewis will join WNYC Public Radio "Soundcheck" host John Schaefer Jan. 17, 2012, at the Greene Space.

The 2 PM chat and mini-concert will feature Lewis (Side Show, The Little Mermaid, Les Miserables) and four-time Tony winner McDonald (Master Class, Ragtime, Carousel), who co-star in the titular roles of Porgy and Bess.

The two will discuss their work on the new, streamlined version of the piece, billed in recent years as The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess. They will also offer songs from the lush Gershwin score.

The program will also include Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten.

Tony-nominated Hair director Diane Paulus stages The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, which began previews Dec. 17 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. It will officially open Jan. 12, 2012.

Porgy and Bess has music by George Gershwin, lyrics by his brother Ira and a book and additional lyrics by DuBose Heyward. It is based on the play Porgy, by DuBose and Dorothy Heyward.
