Bruce Kronenberg directs the Culture Project presentation which will open Oct. 23 at The Culture Project's 45 Below Theatre for a limited engagement through Nov. 13.

Singer-songwriter Earle ("The Revolution Starts Now") offers his take on the story of Karla Faye Tucker, the first woman sentenced to death in the United States since the Civil War. The play deals with the events in her life leading up to the double homicide and her subsequent conversion to Christianity on Death Row. Karla was originally produced by Broadaxe Theater in Nashville, TN in 2002.

Jodie Markell — the actress seen Off-Broadway in Kimberly Akimbo, Snakebit and her Obie Award-winning turn in Machinal — will portray the title character in a cast that also includes Linda Marie Larson (Bright Ideas, Machinal), E. Jason Liebrecht (Lipstick Traces, "Waking Life"), Jenny Maguire (Cavedweller, "The Baxter") and Jeremy Schwartz (The Last Carburetor).

The design team for Karla includes Allison Keating (set), Kip Marsh (lighting) and Nikos Brisco (sound). Alison Dingle serves as stage manager.

Earle's musical career spans three decades and thirteen records which garnered him eleven nominations for Grammy Awards. He won his first in 2004 for his album "The Revolution Starts... Now" in the Best Contemporary Folk Album category. The radio host on Air America Radio co-founded the not-for-profit Broadaxe Theatre in 2002.
