New York's Women's Projects & Productions bestows its "Women of Achievement" Awards at a benefit gala June 14 at Tavern-on-the-Green. 1999's honorees are Dame Judi Dench, Vanessa Redgrave, Pat Fili-Krushel and Susan L. Taylor.
Dench, the 1999 Academy Award winner for Best Supporting Actress, is currently starring in Broadway's Amy's View. Actress Redgrave is also somewhat represented on Broadway -- her rediscovered Tennessee Williams manuscript, Not About Nightingales, is now running at the Circle in the Square. Fili-Krushel is president of ABC Television Networks and Taylor is Editor-in-Chief of Essence Magazine.
Comedian Robert Klein will emcee the event with Sir David Hare, Helen Gurley Brown and Barbra Walters will present the awards. Playwright Wendy Wasserstein and Women's Project's trustee Russell Banks co-chair the event.
Founded in 1978 by current Artistic Director Julia Miles, Women's Projects and Playwrights is a non-profit Off-Broadway theatre dedicated to the development of new plays by women. 1998-99 celebrated the theatre's twenty-first season with Julie Herbert's The Knee Desires Dirt, Marlane Meyer's The Chemistry of Change and Joan Vail Thorne's The Exact Center of the Universe.
Tickets for the benefit's dinner and entertainment are $350 and up. For further information and tickets, call Lorelei Enterprises at (212) 838 2660. -- By Christine Ehren
