PlayBlog Wonderland's Kate Shindle Talks Mad Hatter, Poses in Costume for EW (Photos) Broadway actress and former Miss America Kate Shindle is tackling an unexpected character in her latest project – the Mad Hatter, in Frank Wildhorn and Jack Murphy's Wonderland, the musical update of the classic "Alice in Wonderland" story that will be seen on Broadway this spring.

Shindle (Legally Blonde, Cabaret) posed in costume for Entertainment Weekly recently and spoke about the character and the show. “There are a lot of messages here,” she said. “One is that there are forces at work within everybody and the question is what we want to let win. The Mad Hatter represents a part of Alice — I hesitate to say her dark side because she’s the fun, life-of-the-party side, but she’s also her insecurity, self-sabotage, and fear. The tea party is where Alice is introduced to the Hatter and realizes she has to reckon with that force.”

Wonderland begins previews at the Marquis Theatre March 21. To see what Shindle looks like in her Mad Hatter garb, and to read more of the interview with her, click here.
