Irish Repertory Theatre has announced a second extension for its production of Woody Sez: The Life & Music of Woody Guthrie. Originally scheduled to play through July 23, the show will now continue through September 10 Off-Broadway.
The musical portrait of the folk singer—who influenced the likes of Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash—opened Off-Broadway June 8 to positive reviews.
Woody Sez was created by David M. Lutken with Nick Corley (who directs), Darcie Deaville, Helen J. Russell, and Andy Teirstein. Featuring some of Guthrie’s best-known songs like “This Land Is Your Land” and “So Long It’s Been Good To Know Yuh,” performances began June 1.
The limited engagement is playing in Irish Rep’s Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage.
The current cast is made up of Darcie Deaville (Back Bog Beast Bait), David Finch (Cabaret), David M. Lutken (Southern Comfort), and Helen J. Russell (Ring of Fire).
The production features lighting design by Michael Gottlieb (Rebel in the Soul), set design by Luke Hegel-Cantarella (Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man), costume design by Jeffrey Meek, and music direction by David M. Lutken.
