The Nomad follows the adventures of young iconoclast Isabelle Eberhardt into the Sahara desert, with performances  running through April 6.

The world premiere features a book and lyrics by Swados and Courtney, direction by Swados, choreography by Ani Taj, musical direction by Trevor Bachman and musical arrangements by Kris Kukul.

According to press notes, in The Nomad Eberhard encounters "holy men, kief smokers, spies, soldiers and tribes of nomads in her legendary journey. Embracing the unknown, she finds utter beauty and terrifying madness in her quest to live and die by her own rules."

Elizabeth Swados is a writer, composer and director best known for her acclaimed Broadway show Runaways. She has been nominated for five Tony Awards and three Obie Awards, and is the recipient of a Guggeheim Fellowship. Erin Courtney, also a Guggenheim Fellow, is an Obie-winning playwright whose works have been produced Off-Broadway and nationally.

The Flea's producing director Carol Ostrow commented in a previous statement, “The Flea couldn’t be happier to bring these award winning women together again - to craft a musical about a female iconoclast - and also to give the Bats [resident actors] the opportunity to display their considerable musical and theatrical talents.”
