News World Premiere of Dog and Pony, Featuring Heidi Blickenstaff and Beth Leavel, Opens at Old Globe The world premiere of Rick Elice and Michael Patrick Walker's new musical Dog and Pony officially opens June 5 at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre following previews that began May 28.

Dog and Pony, which features a book by Elice (Jersey Boys) and music and lyrics by Walker (Altar Boyz), continues through June 29.

Directed by Tony Award winner Roger Rees (The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, Peter and the Starcatcher), the cast comprises Heidi Blickenstaff ([title of show], The Little Mermaid) as Jane, Annie; Tony Award winner Beth Leavel (The Drowsy Chaperone, Baby It's You!) as Rhoda, Doris; Eric William Morris (Coram Boy, Mamma Mia!) as the Host, Jeff, Joe; Nicole Parker (The People in the Picture, Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me) as Mags; and Jon Patrick Walker (High Fidelity, Young Frankenstein) as Andy.

"Mags and Andy are a screenwriting team with a track record of hits and a professional relationship that's firing on all cylinders," press notes state. "But when Andy's marriage hits the rocks, forever single Mags finds she wants something more. Will romance ruin their perfect relationship? Dog and Pony is a world premiere musical comedy romance that takes a witty and irreverent look at what women want and whether men fit the bill... or don't."

"Dog and Pony is a fresh and witty new musical that is as entertaining as it is original," artistic director Barry Edelstein said in a previous statement. "Its creators are huge talents blessed with abundant imagination, and they bring to the Globe a show that is funny, full of surprises, and along the way, suffused with real feeling. The Globe's reputation as midwife to exciting new works of musical theatre is in the top-rank of the American theatre, and Dog and Pony represents our work at its best. I am proud to present it to San Diego's audiences."

Dog and Pony features choreography by Lisa Shriver, orchestrations by Larry Hochman, scenic design by Kris Stone, costume design by Emily Pepper, lighting design by Jeff Croiter and Cory Pattak and sound design by Scott Lehrer. Adam Wachter is music director, and Anjee Nero is stage manager. Casting is by Tara Rubin Casting. The Old Globe is located in San Diego's Balboa Park at 1363 Old Globe Way.
