Yorkey, who previously served as artistic director of the Village Theatre, returns to stage the Neil Simon family play that will run through Feb. 28.

The Village is where Yorkey originally developed his Tony-winning musical Next to Normal with composer Tom Kitt, under the working title Feeling Electric. Yonkers marks his return to the theatre after a several year absence to bring Next to Normal to Broadway.

It was Village artistic director Steve Tompkins who approached Yorkey about staging the 1991 Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning play. Yorkey told Playbill.com, "At first I wasn't sure [if it was my thing], I had seen it on Broadway when I was in college. I went back and re-read it and I realized in this sort of odd way that it kind of fits in with my year with Next to Normal."

He continued, "It's really about some of the same things: How we get along as a family and how we deal with the tragedies of the past and the effects they have on our present. How we take a very not-well situation and try to make it well and try to live with it. And although they're very different pieces, they have a kinship. It's really been interesting. [It's been] a little depressing because I've spent my entire year in the company of dysfunctional families, but really worthwhile and it surprised me how much I loved working on Yonkers."

The cast of Lost in Yonkers features Jennifer Lee Taylor as Bella, Suzy Hunt as Grandma Kurnitz, Nick Robinson as Arty, Collin Morris as Jay, Mike Dooley as Uncle Louie, Bradford Farwell as Eddie and Karen Skrinde as Gert. Simon's play is described as "a remarkable coming of age story. Two young brothers are forced to enter a dysfunctional household consisting of their formidable grandmother, their dim-witted aunt, and their Uncle Louie, a small-time thug. As comical as it is poignant, this Neil Simon masterwork is an examination of lives in an oppressive household, with a dramatic climax that is certain to leave you spellbound."

Lost in Yonkers has scenic design by Bill Forrester, lighting design by Tom Sturge and costume design by Melanie Burgess.

Following the Issaquah run, Yonkers will play Everett, WA, March 5-28.
