Michael Holmes is Carl Sandburg in Young Carl, a one-man play about the great American poet which premieres at the Chandler Studio in NoHo on April 8. Holmes has also arranged and directed the piece, which runs through May 7. The Action/Reaction Theatre Company is the producer.Sandburg (1878-1967) quit school after eighth grade and spent a decade working in a variety of jobs before hitting the rails as a hobo in 1897. He was virtually unknown in the literary world when some of his early poems were published in Poetry Magazine and drew the attention of a book publisher. When his volume "Chicago Poems" was issued shortly after, Sandburg was hailed as a rough-hewn genius. Within a few years he had achieved international fame.

Young Carl plays every Friday and Saturday at 8 PM and Sundays at 4 PM. There will be no performance on April 23, 28, May 5 or 6th. Chandler Studio is located at 12443 Chandler Blvd. For tickets and information call (818) 908-4094.
