GRANDPA GELLMAN: Stuart’s father/Noah’s grandfather

ROSE STOPNICK GELLMAN: Noah's concerned new stepmother, a friend of the family who marries Stuart after his first wife's death. CAST

THE DOMESTIC APPLIANCES:
• The Radio is portrayed by three women that look and sing like a Motown girl group.
• The Washing Machine: Is brand-new and a good force that pushes Caroline to move forward in life.
• The Dryer: Torments Caroline throughout the play.
THE MOON: A calming and healing presence throughout the play.
THE BUS: Is the primary source of transportation for the African American characters in the play.

DR. CUMMINGS: Female, 50’s-60’s. An astrophysicist, professor. She is very intelligent, somewhat sardonic, a believer in facts. Widowed two years ago and still in mourning. She has a daughter, Olive. She receives a diagnosis of early onset dementia but shows only slight signs of it during the play.
OLIVE: Female, Cummings’ daughter, 20’s-30’s. Smart, self-possessed, caring. A positive, smart, attractive person, she believes in more than she can see. She is a doctoral candidate in English literature.
JASON: Male, 30’s. A journalist, he works for a magazine he doesn’t respect, has recently broken up with a girlfriend, and isn’t sure what he believes about the greater questions. He does want there to be more than this. He wants there to be meaning and order. Ethical, intelligent, searching.
PLAYER: Any gender, any age, any race, any type. They make up the rest of the “world.” This includes, Haley, Chancellor, Farrell, Doctor and Messenger.

SHAUN: 30-40; Proficient acoustic guitar player, expressive lead vocals, demure, but a man with a vision.
ABIGAIL: 30-40; Lead Singer of band, vibrant, exciting, expressive vocals. Ability to play some stand up drum and possibly accordion. Big vocal range and large personality.
MUSICIAN 1: Synthesizer/keyboard/possible accordion.
