Documentary performance is a unique opportunity for an actor to develop and create characters from real people, using real text. Delve into the study of inhabiting a real person's words and bringing that person to life with Mary Bacon and Mary Hodges in Acting in Documentary Performance - Becoming Someone Else.
Acting in Documentary Performance: Becoming Someone Else - starts October 8
Instructors: Mary Bacon (Actor, Coal Country at The Public, The Tribute Artist and Little Women at Primary Stages) and Mary Hodges (Actor, Cassio in Hamlet and Ophelia in Othello at Harlem Shakespeare; Assistant Director, Slave Play on Broadway)
As seen in the contemporary theatre canon in The Laramie Project, Anne Deavere Smith's Fires in the Mirror and Twilight, Los Angeles, last season's Coal Country, and this summer's Zoom performance of The Line at The Public--as well as in other types of performance and activism, such as the current work of Sarah Cooper--documentary theater is a type of storytelling that allows artists to amplify the voices of people whose stories might not otherwise be told and interrogate our assumptions in a way that is genuine to the experience of an individual or community. In Primary Stages ESPA’s online class with two powerhouse women, actor Mary Bacon and actor/director Mary Hodges, you will delve into the technical study of inhabiting a real person's words and bringing that person to life.
