Institute for American Musical Theatre Creators
New York, NY 10032
Calling all aspiring and early-career musical theater writers: NYC's Institute for American Musical Theatre is proud to offer the country’s first Musical Theatre Creation certificate program, an innovative 2-year intensive experience for composers, lyricists, librettists, and directors with a passion for new-work development.
Led by Kleban-Award-winning lyricist-librettist Sam Carner, this program will offer mentorship by some of New York’s top musical theatre developers including Adam Gwon, Michael R. Jackson, Lonny Price, Anna K. Jacobs, Brad Haak, Derek Gregor, Marlo Hunter, and more. It aims to foster rich and lasting collaborations with other passionate, talented early-career writers, composers, and directors. And with a direct affiliation to the IAMT performance program, students will work closely and regularly with a diverse group of young performers who can help give expression and voice to their work--both within the program and beyond.
The Institute for American Musical Theatre Creators balances a dedication to treating writers as their own unique artists with a commitment to providing them with a solid framework in the history and present of musical theatre structure and style. Through varied collaborations and intimate fundamental training, students will develop their technical tool-kit, enrich their understanding of the musical theatre form as a whole, learn important practical and bankable skills for making a living in the business, and hone their own distinct creative voices—all at a uniquely affordable price point.
The Institute for American Musical Theatre Creators is now accepting applications for the fall of 2020.
