STORYLINE: Scandal abounds in Shakespeare’s hilarious, biting comedy about lies, courtship, and the chaos created in pursuit of true love. The famous bantering lovers, Benedick and Beatrice, trade barbs while matching wits (and hearts) in this celebrated romantic romp. Perfect for the whole family, this 90-minute production is built to tour, and geared towards audiences of all ages.

Roles:

[BENEDICK]

25 to 30, male identifying, all ethnicities. Witty, charming, and skeptical young man who initially mocks love and marriage, only to fall deeply in love with Beatrice by the play's end.

[BEATRICE]

20 to 30, female identifying, all ethnicities. A quick-witted, outspoken, and independent woman, well known for her intelligence, humor, and passion.

[DON PEDRO/DON JOHN]

20 to 30s, male identifying, all ethnicities. Don Pedro possesses an innate sense of power and authority, which he wears with great ease, a man comfortable in his own skin. Don John is Don Pedro’s illegitimate brother. He schemes to create misery, notably by deceiving others and undermining their happiness, particularly the marriage of Hero and Claudio

[HERO/DOGBERRY]

20s - 30s, female identifying, all ethnicities. Hero is a playful, kind and devoted young woman, falsely accused of infidelity. Dogberry is comically bumbling constable. Requires an actor with a strong emotional range, and a great sense of play.

[LEONATO]

25 to 30, male identifying, all ethnicities. Father to Hero and a figure of authority and warmth. He is grounded but playful, and dexterous with language.

[CLAUDIO/BORACHIO]

20s-30, male identifying, all ethnicities. Claudio is a young, impulsive soldier, easily swayed and quick to judge. Borachio is a deceitful and cunning follower of Don John, instrumental in the plot to disgrace Hero and deceive Claudio.
