Founded in 1917 by the Drama League, the Drama Book Shop became an independent store in 1923. In 2011 the Drama Book Shop received a Tony Honor for Excellence in the Theatre. Secure in its reputation as the city's best source for theatrical works ' it keeps 8,000 plays in stock ' the shop has begun to nurture and sponsor them, as well. When a troupe with a musical that originated at Wesleyan University needed urban rehearsal space in 2002, it received carte blanche to convene downstairs in the store's 50-seat Arthur Seelen Theater, named for the owner's late husband. "In the Heights" went on to win several Tony Awards in 2008. The Drama Book Shop is set to reopen in a new location in the Summer of 2021.


Reporting to the General Manager and Senior Management, The Drama Book Shop Inventory & E-commerce Operations Manager position is a non-exempt position that will be required to manage all aspects of day-to-day inventory operations, including stock receiving and shelving, special orders and account reconciliation. This individual is also responsible for managing the Book Shop's ecommerce sales channels, including regular site maintenance, inventory upkeep, and packing and shipping all ecommerce orders. This Inventory & Ecommerce Operations Manager will work closely with the Drama Book Shop's management team to build smooth store operations by ensuring that inventory records are regularly updated and ecommerce orders are processed in a timely and efficient manner.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities:
  • Process all incoming stock shipments from vendors and ensure Wordstock POS is updated accordingly.
  • Alongside the corporate finance team, reconcile all packing slips against invoices and submit them for payment.
  • Flag any inventory issues to General Manager/Buyer and work together to resolve them.
  • Oversee ecommerce operations, including content maintenance to the shop's IndieCommerce webstore through the American Bookseller's Association. Maintain site catalog, and manage and implement digital merchandising elements, including bestsellers, staff picks, etc.
  • Ensure all ecommerce orders are processed, packed, and shipped in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Establish an efficient workflow for ecommerce management that can scale with the growth of the business.
  • Maintain inventory of shipping supplies including boxes and other packaging elements.
  • Respond to customer inquiries related to the Drama Book Shop's ecommerce store, providing the highest level of service in line with the shop's service quality guidelines.
  • Process weekly e-commerce sales, inventory, and metrics reporting and distribute to all necessary parties.
  • Assist corporate finance team with monthly e-commerce sales reconciliation.

Required Knowledge / Qualifications:
  • A two (2)-three (3) years of inventory management experience at a bookstore or similar retail establishment preferred.
  • A college degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • An organized team player, with a positive attitude and collaborative mindset.
  • A task oriented individual, who thrives from building efficient processes and workflows.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and GSuite Apps (Docs, Sheets, Drive) is required.
  • Experience with Wordstock POS and IndieCommerce is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of theatre and/or literature is preferred but not required.

Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to lift and move items up to 75 lbs. without assistance.
  • Must be comfortable being on your feet for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to climb stairs.
