MANAGER OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS


Organizational Summary:

Playwrights Horizons Theater School has provided thousands of theater students with intensive theater training through a four-year program that emphasizes professional development and interdisciplinary theater making. The curriculum includes courses in acting, directing, playwriting, design, movement, and voice and speech for nearly 200 students each year.


Playwrights Horizons is a writer's theater dedicated to the support and development of contemporary American playwrights, composers and lyricists, and to the production of their new work.

Director, Playwrights Horizons Theater School


Position Summary:

Playwrights Horizons is seeking an outgoing, passionate, highly organized individual to join the administrative team downtown at Playwrights Horizons Theater School! Alongside the Director of Playwrights Horizons Theater School, this role will oversee the administrative office functions and serves as the first point of contact for communications between students, faculty, staff, and the NYU Department of Drama.


Responsibilities:


  • Serve as a first point of contact and liaison between school administration and the student body through advising, coordination, and conflict resolution as needed.

  • Create and maintain the academic calendar, class schedule, student files and schedules, and class rosters

  • Facilitate student enrollment both internally and with NYU

  • Collect, organize, and distribute course evaluations, student grades and evaluations, submit grades to NYU Serve as a liaison to NYU student advisors



  • Coordinate select events and meetings including Studio Swap, First Year Orientation, Tisch Drama Awards, end of year student/faculty panels, Final Friday, Faculty Retreat, and Affinity Group related events


  • Assist with event coordination and execution for various special events and meetings through the school year, including First Friday


  • Manage school communication calendar and create school related communications, such as the newsletter and school resource page


  • Create and maintain student and faculty handbooks in partnership with the Director.

  • Collect and organize faculty attendance as part of the weekly payroll process

  • Manage and organize school supplies inventory, track expenses and petty cash as part of the larger School budget in partnership with the Director

  • Coordinate the fulfillment of classroom requests such as set up and equipment needs with other administrative staff.

  • Provide general administrative support to faculty, staff, and students

  • Partner with the Director to build relationships with Playwrights Horizons and participate in developing programming that increases points of connection between the school and theater.


Skills & Qualifications:


  • Minimum 4 years of administrative experience

  • Highly organized with keen attention to detail

  • Passion for working with students in an educational environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Able to work from the office a minimum of 4 days a week during the semester

  • Ability to interact successfully with key stakeholders at all levels at NYU and at the organization

  • Strong Google Workspace skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills particularly with young people

  • Maintain mental health first aid certification

  • Experience in Blackbaud and Slack a plus

  • Experience working for a non-profit and/or educational institution preferred


Compensation:

Salary: $60,000
