DESCRIPTION

Position Summary:
Founded in 1972, Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning is the only multidisciplinary urban arts center—and only member of the historic public-private partnership, the Cultural Institutions Group—located in Southeast Queens, arguably the most diverse neighborhood in the city’s most diverse borough, where 2.25 million African-American, Caribbean-American, Indo-Asian, African, Latinx, and Caucasian, Native American and Indigenous residents, artists and audiences live, work and play. Our mission is to offer quality visual, performing, and literary arts, and to provide accessible education programs to encourage participation in the arts.

The Part-Time Education Associate at JCAL delivers administrative, operational and strategic support for ongoing and seasonal education programs funded by the City of New York, private grants and individual and corporate donors. The position is on-site; availability for certain Saturday hours are required.

Reporting to JCAL's Director of Education, the incumbent will be a resourceful, entrepreneurial, spreadsheet-friendly addition to JCAL, with potential for a FT role during the 2021-22 fiscal year. The individual will perform specific tasks and hold clear responsibilities to JCAL School of the Arts (youth and adult education); JCAL School Assembly and Family Matinee series (seasonal); Queens International Children’s Festival (annual); JCAL Talks (monthly speaker series); JCAL Reads (seasonal literary series); JCAL Education at Home (ongoing branded video instruction); JCAL College Access (seasonal); various clients in our Social Practice unit (as needed); and City Council designations for Cultural After-School Adventures (CASA) and SU-CASA programs (spring).

Tasks and responsibilities will include:

Coordinating implementation and smooth operation of JCAL School of the Arts.
Managing afterschool/in-school residencies, partnerships and workshops.
Initiating, tracking and following up on email and phone correspondence with schools, teachers, students, parents, and relevant stakeholders.
Acting as communication facilitator among and between teaching artists and clients at partner organizations.
Overseeing aspects of pre- and post-production for on-site and off-site events.
Assisting in collecting data and documentation for internal use and for grantors.
Traveling, as directed, to partner sites and filing oral/written reports on program findings.
Assisting with budget monitoring and projections.
Ensuring collection, accuracy and submission of teaching artist timesheets.
Procuring program supplies (e.g., visual arts materials, music books, costumes).
Maintaining school/senior center calendar.
Recruiting CASA students into JCAL School of the Arts.
Providing general administrative support for all JCAL Education Department programs.

To apply, please craft a short cover letter highlighting your work in arts, arts education, and/or your commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and access. Also attach an updated professional resume, including two references.

JCAL is an Equal Opportunity Employer and actively honors the values of its board-approved Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility Plan, with the goal of building and nurturing a culturally diverse, community responsive team. Minorites and women are especially welcome to apply.
