Brown Ledge Camp
Burlington, VT 05401
Brown Ledge Camp is an all-girls sleep-away camp located on Lake Champlain in Colchester, VT. The camp features a full waterfront, stable, and land activities, one of the most popular being Theatre. The Theatre Department stages 17 productions over the eight week summer, including twelve one-act plays, two full length plays, and a full musical. The pace is fast, and the results are professional. Campers are involved in all aspects of production, in addition to performing and stage managing. Classes are offered in addition to productions.
The Technical Director (TD) oversees stagecraft, which includes constructing and striking sets, hanging lights, painting, and cleaning and organizing the theatre, while mentoring and teaching campers and staff. Carpentry is the most important skill, while lighting and electrical proficiency is also desired. Ensuring camper and staff safety is of utmost importance, and knowledge of teaching proper use of power tools and equipment is a must. The TD is in charge of buying and procuring supplies for the theatre, drafting basic technical drawings for set construction, and leading the construction of scenic elements. The TD will be responsible for the regular duties of a Theatre Counselor, which includes teaching theatre arts to campers in such areas as acting, stagecraft, design, movement, voice, improvisation, and/or combat. Classes are designed around the strengths of the counselors. The TD may have the opportunity to direct a one-act play during the summer, if that is of interest. Along with the rest of the theatre staff, the TD will help produce 1-3 new productions each week of camp.
Counselors are co-ed and live at camp with other counselors. In addition to working in their department, counselors are also responsible for overseeing a table in the dining hall, which meets for three meals a day. Female counselors are responsible for overseeing a camper cabin, and male counselors perform road duty and host evening games.
Interested applicants should submit an application at https://brownledge.org/apply-job/. Background check required. Compensation will depend on the applicant's age / level of education and experience, and is competitive with other summer camp programs. Meals and housing provided.
