DESCRIPTION

THE PRETTY PANTS BANDIT is a world premiere pop/rock musical set against the sparkling and scintillating backdrop of 1930s Miami. Inspired by true events. Marie Baker, her gang, and one infamous pair of guns took the country for a year-long ride that would make headlines. Notoriously leaving the men she robbed with their pants down, her evolution became a revolution. A story of empowerment and giving voice to the voiceless, THE PRETTY PANTS BANDIT is set to steal your heart.

Georgia Ensemble Theatre is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion. As such, We highly encourage actors of all races, ethnicities, genders, & body types to submit. https://get.org/equity-diversity-inclusion/

MARIE BAKER (ROSE DURANTE) - Female identifying, white. Late 20s-30s. Housewife turned hero. Marie escapes an abusive marriage and ends up taking on the societal norms that put her in it. At first timid and meek, her newfound freedom transforms her into someone unpredictable, brash, and a little wild. She’s ready for something. She’s just not quite sure what.

Mezzo, G4-G6. Must have strong high belt through D6.

LAWRENCE WALKER - Male identifying, Black. 20s-30s. Jazz musician/Nightclub Singer with a romantic heart but a deeply wounded psyche. He possesses a core of strength he struggles to recognize.

Tenor, B3-C5

GLORIA ROWE - Female identifying, any ethnicity. 20s-30s. A female reporter trying to make her mark in a male dominated world. Ferociously intelligent and strong-willed, with a burning desire to succeed.

Mezzo/Alto, E3-E6 H.

LESLIE QUIGG - Male identifying, white. 40s-50s. Miami’s chief of police, but with greater ambitions. A politically savvy, smooth operating, self-righteous, narcissistic hypocrite whose quiet menace has kept Miami in check for years. A dangerous man.

Baritone F2-G4

ANGELO DURANTE - Male identifying, any ethnicity. 30s-40s. Bag Man/Accountant for the mob with a hair trigger temper that can go from zero to total rage in a breath. His fear of humiliation is only overshadowed by his fear of his mob superiors. A petty, self-important despot.

Non-singing role but may be asked to double BASS in ensemble songs.

JAYE - Male identifying, white. 20s. Cocky but endearing, always working an angle, he thinks he’s far more street smart than he is. He sees himself as a southern playboy: think Doc Holiday meets a wannabe, James Bond. His odd self-styled confidence and charm does appeal to the ladies.

Tenor 1, B3-C5.

SAM - Male identifying, any ethnicity. 20s-30s. A gentle giant, but his size and strength make him appear a 'heavy'. But Sam just wants to make people smile. A total heart of gold who longs for the simple things. Fiercely protective and loyal to Marie and his friends.

Baritone/Tenor 2, F2-G4. Must G4 in full chest voice.

CESARIO - Male identifying, Latino. 20s-30s. Bright and eager with an innocence he’s managed to hang onto despite his hardships. Witty, warm, and full of imagination, he's also a wizard with numbers.

Tenor1 , B3-C5. Must have B5 in full chest voice.

KAT WALKER - Female identifying, Black. 30s-40s. Lawrence's sister. Passionate, intelligent, and resilient. A nurturing realist, she's nobody's fool or shrinking violet. She's always been the one to bear most of the responsibility for her family.

Alto, E3-E5

ENSEMBLE - all ethnicities, all genders, all body types. 20s-50s. Strong singers and/or dancers, to play multiple featured characters/roles.
