DESCRIPTION

Shakespeare in the Woods (SitW) is seeking an experienced East Coast based director to helm its production of “The Tempest”, as part of the 2023 summer season in Manchester, VT. “The Tempest” will run in rep alongside “Hamlet”, for a season that examines driving themes of family, loss and restoration, revenge, mercy, the natural & supernatural worlds, and more. SitW in an outdoor professional theatre co. that explores Shakespeare through unconventional stagings with a focus on relevant social issues and themes.

During its 3 years of existence, SitW has defined itself as a unique creative space for artists of all identities to produce work by encouraging fresh approach to the text, highlighting staging concepts that work in collaboration with the natural landscape, and prioritizing thoughtful casting/hiring in order to platform often underrepresented viewpoints and voices. The creative culture/work environment is structured with care and intention, and when you are employed with SitW, you are entering into the mutual agreement of creating and maintaining a safe work environment for yourself and your fellow theatre makers. Rehearsal and Production Dates & Locations
Performances will begin on August 23rd and conclude on September 10th, with Weds-Sun evening performances, and the potential for additional Senior/Student Friday matinees.

Rehearsals will begin virtually in July, with in person rehearsals in Manchester, VT beginning either the final week of July or the first of August*, for an overall 9 week rehearsal & performance commitment.
*Rehearsal dates and schedule will be finalized with the directorial team.

Rehearsal structure will be blocks, Mon-Fri for both shows. You will need to be available weekdays throughout your contract, with the wiggle room of 2 conflict days.

Contract
$300/wk for 9wks
Housing and Transportation to & from VT included. If you plan on driving to VT, you will be provided with a $12/wk gas stipend throughout for rehearsal trips.
