AMDA College of the Performing Arts, with campuses in New York City and Hollywood, is one of the foremost post-secondary performing arts colleges in the country. AMDA offers Bachelor of Fine Arts degree programs in Acting, Musical Theatre, Dance Theatre and Performing Arts, as well as two year conservatory programs.

The Wardrobe Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing many aspects of costuming. Job duties include buying, designing, and repairing costumes, managing dressers, and deciding when actors should make costume changes. They work closely with the Production Costume Department Manager or Show Designer. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of the costume department, including, but not limited to: maintenance of all costumes, wigs, shoes, props, backstage dressing, laundry, bible creation and communication to managers and contracted Designers.
  • Effectively problem solve while experiencing the fast pace and unique environment with multiple show graduation performances. 
  • Fit, alter, sew and wash theatrical costumes to the specifics requested by management, in a timely fashion.
  • Laundry: washing, ironing, steaming, pressing, categorizing laundry by show.
  • Pattern making, draping and cutting, dying.
  • Shoe maintenance, painting, dying and stocking.
  • Wig maintenance, millinery repair, crafts building and repair.
  • Dress shows and creating backstage tracks for the bible.
  • Pull and Restore items into stock.
  • Organize and clean all dressing areas, stock areas, costume racks.
  • Communicate weekly with management.
  • Any other duty deemed necessary by management pertaining to the costume department.


  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in Theatrical Costuming or Theatrical management preferred; or any equivalent combination of relevant and work related skills and experience
  • Minimum 2 years costume shop management / experience in theatrical costume building and alteration, OR
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as wardrobe supervisor or assistant on tour or in summer stock companies, OR
  • Minimum 2 years of cruise ship experience as wardrobe supervisor or theatrical wardrobe stitcher
  • Expertise in theatrical alteration, pattern making, draping, hand and machine sewing, washing, dying, millinery, craft building and repair, dressing, backstage track creation, shoe repair, wig maintenance
  • Knowledge of educational operations
  • Understanding of theatrical wardrobe practices and principles
  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts
  • Sound problem-solving skills
  • Works well with different personalities and nationalities within the cast and crew
