There has also been a date change, with performances now set to begin at the Duke of York's Jan. 22, 2009 (instead of Jan. 24), prior to an official opening on Feb. 5.

Further casting will be announced shortly.

Mastrantonio has previously appeared on the London stage in Michael Grandage's Grand Hotel at the Donmar Warehouse in 2004, in which she played the fading ballerina Elizaveta Grushinskaya. She made her Broadway debut as an understudy in a revival of West Side Story in 1980 (at the Minskoff Theatre), and subsequently appeared in the short-lived productions of Copperfield (1981), Oh, Brother! (also 1981), The Human Comedy (1984) and The Marriage of Figaro (1985), before starring as Aldonza in the longer-running revival of Man of La Mancha in 2002. She has also appeared with the New York Shakespeare Festival in David Hare's The Knife (at the Public Theatre) and Henry V, Measure for Measure and Twelfth Night in Central Park. Her extensive film roles include "The Perfect Storm," "Consenting Adults," "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" and "The Abyss."

Originally produced in a one-act version in 1955 and subsequently expanded into a two-act play for a subsequent 1966 production, A View From the Bridge has had two subsequent Broadway revivals, at the Ambassador Theatre in 1983 (where it starred Tony Lo Bianco as Eddie) by Roundabout Theatre Company at Criterion Stage Right in 1997, subsequently transferring to the Neil Simon. It was last seen in the West End in 1995 in a production at the Strand Theatre (now the Novello), in a production that featured Bernard Hill. Prior to that, it was revived at the National with Michael Gambon in 1987.

This new production is directed by Lindsay Posner, currently directing a new West End-bound production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical Carousel starring Lesley Garrett (now touring before opening at the Savoy Theatre Dec. 2). Other recent West End credits include Fiddler On The Roof (which starred Henry Goodman at the Savoy), David Mamet's A Life in the Theatre (which starred Patrick Stewart at the Albery, now Novello), Oleanna (which starred Julia Stiles and Aaron Eckhart at the Garrick), Sam Shepard's Fool for Love (which starred Juliette Lewis at the Apollo), and Tom and Viv (at the Almeida). The production is designed by Christopher Oram and lit by Peter Mumford. It is produced by Kim Poster for Stanhope Productions and Sonia Friedman Productions. Stott, who was most recently seen on the London stage in Yasmina Reza's God of Carnage at the Gielgud Theatre in 2008, was also in the original cast of Reza's Art at Wyndham's Theatre in 1996. Other recent theatre credits include Heroes (also Wyndham's) and The Faith Healer (Almeida). His TV and film credits include BBC4's "Hancock and Joan," "Messiah," "Girl in a Café" and "Charlie Wilson's War."
