Larry Gelbart, the two-time Tony Award-winning librettist who was also a playwright and a screenwriter for TV and movies, died on Sept. 11, 2009, at the age of 81, according to published reports. Viewed as a master of situation comedy and one-liners, Mr. Gelbart won Tonys for Best Book of a Musical for City of Angels, which he was recently adapting as a screen musical, and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, which he co-wrote with Burt Shevelove.
