Singer, musician, poet, writer and Broadway newcomer Saul Williams was joined by Tonya Pinkins, Christopher Jackson, Saycon Sengbloh and the cast of Holler If Ya Hear Me to perform tunes from the musical for a special May 2 press preview. With a book by Todd Kreidler, the story is based on the lyrics and poetry of Tupac Shakur, a seminal figure in hip hop who was gunned down in 1996 at the age of 25. Directed by Kenny Leon, the production features 17 of Shakur's songs as well as a new one created from Shakur's poetry and set to music by music supervisor Daryl Waters. Here the cast previews "My Block," "I Get Around," "Keep Ya Head Up" and more. Read the Playbill story.
