News 150 to Slam Shakespeare's Sonnets in Central Park Today The fifth annual Shakespeare's Birthday Sonnet Slam is held in New York's Central Park April 24, featuring more than 150 volunteers performing all 154 of Shakespeare's sonnets in numerical order. Noted participants slated for this year include Richard Thomas, Patrick Page, Vivienne Benesch, Peter Francis James and British Deputy Consul General Nick Astbury.

The slam is held at the Naumburg Bandshell 1-4 PM in Central Park and is a free event open to the public. Producer Melinda Hall created the Sonnet Slam in 2011 for New Yorkers to celebrate their love of the bard. "I wanted to create a unique opportunity for the Sonneteer and Shakespeare to be together on the Bandshell stage," said Hall in a press statement.

Past Sonneteers include Tony nominees Dana Ivey (Sunday in the Park with George) and Stacy Keach (Other Desert Cities)
