News 27 Rue de Fleurus Extends Urban Stages Run Urban Stages has extended its production of the Gertrude Stein musical 27 Rue de Fleurus through April 13.

The new musical penned by Ted Sod (book and lyrics) and Lisa Koch (lyrics and music) began previews March 1 and officially opened March 6. The production was originally scheduled to conclude its limited engagement April 6, but has extended for an additional week.

27 Rue de Fleurus tells the story of Stein's relationship with her companion Alice B. Toklas from Toklas' point of view. Gertrude, according to press notes, "grows tired of Alice's lack of panache for telling her perspective of their story and attempts to hijack the play as only the author of such lines as 'sugar is not a vegetable' can. But Alice has secrets to share with the audience that silence the famously verbose Gertrude. This celebrated couple confronts each other about love, marriage, jealousy, genius and a few other delicious topics while Pablo Picasso, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Mabel Dodge, Sylvia Beach and even Jean Harlow drop by for a visit."

27 Rue de Fleurus stars Sarah Chalfy, Susan Haefner, Barbara Rosenblat, Cheryl Stern and Emily Zacharias under the direction of Frances Hill.

The creative team for 27 Rue de Fleurus includes musical director John Bell, choreographer Jessica Hayden, set designer Roman Tatarowicz, costume designer Carrie Robbins, lighting designer Raquel Davis and video designer Alex Koch.
