Launched by veteran Public Theater properties master Jay Duckworth, the free event brings together a vast network of full-time prop masters, designers, carpenters, freelancers and artisans who share ideas and designs to meet the ever-evolving demands of contemporary and reinvented classical theatre.

Various professionals and industry members speak at the summit and share tips and tricks of the trade.

As Duckworth pointed out to Playbill.com, prop challenges can range from creating the vomit used on stage in God of Carnage to locating the gun-umbrella prop for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Duckworth's creations alone include an intricate table map used in King Lear at the Public, as well as a torn-apart body in the Shakespeare in the Park production of The Bacchae.

The goal is to expand the network of resourceful artists and carpenters who work in the demanding, and often unrecognized field. No major New York City theatre awards have categories for prop design.

The summit will take place from 6:30-10 PM in the properties shop at the Public Theater's Lafayette Street home. It is free to all prop masters, artisans, sculptors and prop carpenters/electricians.
