The OB summer hit, Man in the Flying Lawn Chair, which resumed performances at the 78th Street Theatre Lab on Oct. 12 will close on schedule, Nov. 18. Based on the true life story of Larry Walters, the Man in the Flying Lawn Chair is an ensemble piece created and directed by Eric Nightengale.
The show is based on the true life story of Larry Walters, the man who surprised commercial airline pilots in flight above Los Angeles by appearing outside their cockpit windows in an aluminum lawn chair supported by fifty surplus weather balloons.
After appearing 16,000 feet in the air in his lawn chair, Walters later showed up on the David Letterman Show. He dropped out of sight an established "cult hero for outcasts and daredevil weirdos everywhere."
Toby Wherry (The Packwood Papers) portrays Larry Walters in The Man in the Flying Lawn Chair). Also featured in the ensemble are Carey Cromelin, Monica Read, Kimberly Reiss, and Troy W. Taber.
The Man in the Flying Lawn Chair is the 78th Street Theatre Lab's latest installment in the series, "From Page to Stage," which has been "developed in the tradition of the living newspaper, where theatrical inspiration is drawn from people and events pulled from the front pages."
