What a night on Broadway! The stars came out for the opening of Les Liaisons Dangereuses, a play about a world where fashion and style ruled people’s reputations, lives, and even their destinies!
How lucky are we that we that we get to dress just for the pleasure of looking swell for a terrific night at the theatre and a fabulous party afterwards?!

Rachel de Benedet kept it edgy and modern in her dark, dark chocolate ensemble of chiffon and leather! A drawstring closure at the bust with barely-there strings holding the bustier in place, a flowing ruffle of pleated chiffon in the skirt with simple silver sandals on her feet, and then that mahogany leather belted corset! Rachel brought downtown-daring uptown!
Laura Sudduth kept it sexy and sophisticated in a simple dark green, almost black sheath of sequins right down to the floor. The high neckline in front kept it cool ‘n’ classy, but when she passed by, that plunging back was hot! Hot! HOT! The chunky gold earrings were an excellent choice, coming and going!
Ora Jones ruled the color red in a classic goddess gown. One-shouldered and draped “just so,” it loved every inch of her curvy-girl figure and sent her down the press line all-a-smile! The silver and ruby earrings and those silver pumps finished her luscious look from top to bottom!
Katrina Cunningham stunned everyone in her belle epoch gown of black lace over illusion! Fitted over every lovely curve and flaring flirtatiously at the knee, Katrina worked the paparazzi into a fever! And those pre-Raphaelite strawberry blond curls pulled up into a loose Gibson? WOW!
Mary Beth Peil played her “classy” card to perfection. A simple black velvet tux perfectly cut to her razor-sharp figure was all the adornment she needed. A teeny bit of bling on the neckline of her shell was echoed in the earrings! The mega-wattage was in Mary Beth’s sparkling eyes, a beautiful lady’s ultimate fashion accessory!
Birgitte Hjort Sørensen! Now this was a fashion statement! A minimalist white sheath of silk underneath, but with that sleeveless tunic in white transparent chiffon that floated as she passed! With a single closure at the throat and large camellias constructed of silver paillettes scattered over the shoulders and bust, this silhouette stopped traffic! Above and beyond the way Birgitte looked in the ensemble, we all agreed that it was a wonderful breakthrough for opening-night fashion here on Broadway!
Off-setting her radiant youth, Elena Kampouris wore a gown with wonderful historical and peasant references in its design. Ruby red with a skirt that belled outward from the waistline, she resisted any jewelry in favor of the gorgeous horizontal bands and chevrons of beading and sequin embellishments starting at the bustline and continuing all the way down to the hem! The geometric embroidery would have had a folk-art feel to it except for the sparkle! And jewelry would have made it all too fussy! Elena gets an A+ for “Less Is More!”
From Liev Schreiber to many of the other men to arrive, the look was classic dark suit, white shirt, and tie. The play may have been about swordfights and fancy dress for 18th century French men, but last night’s red carpet was about the guys keeping it clean and conservative in what is definitely a 2016 fashion trend for the fall.
Janet McTeer was a “leading lady” all the way! That contemporary white-white blousant bodice over a full and flowy floor-length skirt of silver and metallic embellishment was breathtaking! Lovely hair and make-up, and minimal jewelry! This is how a star commands attention! Congratulations to her and the whole company!.... #andScene!
