The show is written by Linda Kline — Kleban's long-time companion until he died from cancer at 48 — and Lonny Price, who also starred in and directed the musical's original production when it was first seen on the tiny Manhattan Theatre Club's second stage in the autumn of 2000. The following spring it transferred to Broadway's Ambassador Theatre, a playhouse with ten times the capacity of the show's original 150-seat venue. The 60-seat Landor will be even more intimate.
A Class Act showcases 20 of Kleban's songs and portrays the composer's life in the context of a memorial service held in 1988 at the Shubert Theatre where A Chorus Line, for which Kleban won a Tony Award, was still playing at the time.
