PlayBlog A Cover Story: Lombardi at Circle in the Square Dan Lauria plays the title role in Eric Simonson's new work Lombardi, which begins previews Sept. 23 at Circle in the Square.


Set over a week in 1965 — five years before football coaching legend Vince Lombardi's death from stomach cancer at age 57 — the play is told by a sports reporter, a character named Michael McCormick, who comes to live with Vince and his wife Marie to do research for a Look magazine piece.

Lauria is joined onstage by Judith Light, Keith Nobbs, Bill Dawes, Robert Christopher Riley and Chris Sullivan. Thomas Kail directs.
