Izzard told Variety that he aims to star opposite his A Day in the Death of Joe Egg co-star Victoria Hamilton. Both actors did well by the recent Roundabout Theatre Company revival of that Peter Nichols play. No producers or director have been attached to the project.

In Joe Egg, Izzard played the frustrated husband of Hamilton. Their characters were the parents of a physically and mentally disabled child who is draining the life from their marriage and lives. Izzard was nominated for a Tony Award, and was widely expected to win. Brian Dennehy took home the prize instead for his turn in Long Day's Journey Into Night.

The last Macbeth to grace Broadway was the short-lived production starring Kelsey Grammer.
