Crean (1877-1938) is considered one of Ireland's unsung heroes, according to production notes. His world "is brought to life in this dramatic and humorous solo performance."

Opening is July 22. Performances continue to Sept. 9.

Expect "riveting true stories of Crean's Antarctic explorations" from "one of the few men to serve with both Scott and Shackleton and survive three legendary expeditions: Discovery (1901-1904), Terra Nova (1910-1913) and Endurance (1914-1916)."

Crean's "solitary trek to base camp during the Terra Nova Expedition to rescue his comrades" has been described as "the finest feat of individual heroism in the entire age of exploration."

This award-winning one-man show has toured throughout Ireland and internationally for the past three years. Its U.K. premiere was at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where it won a Fringe First Award. Aidan Dooley is from Galway in the west of Ireland. He trained at Guilford School of Acting London and works as a freelance actor, writer and director in London.

Performances will play Irish Rep's home at 132 West 22nd Street (between Sixth and Seventh Avenues) Tuesday-Saturday at 8 PM. Matinees are Saturday and Sunday at 3 PM.
